Frequently Asked Questions

A quick overview of who we are, how we work with farmers, and what you can expect from Rahyang Coffee.

Where does your coffee come from?

Our coffee comes from smallholder farming families in Gununghalu, in the highlands of West Java, Indonesia. It grows under the shade of mixed forest, alongside native trees and in rich volcanic soil, which helps protect the soil, water sources and biodiversity.

Is Rahyang Coffee organic?

We are not formally certified yet. Our coffee is grown under shade, without synthetic chemicals, with a strong focus on soil health and biodiversity. We work with farmers to document these practices and are preparing for organic certification as volumes allow.

What processing methods do you use?

We work six lots of the same shade-grown arabica, and what changes is the fermentation and drying: Natural, Fully Washed, Honey, Anaerobic Washed, Anaerobic Natural and Wet Hulled. Each lot follows a documented protocol, and you can see every profile with its tasting notes on our Coffees page.

How do you ensure the quality of your coffee?

Cherries are triple-picked at ripeness, sorted in floating tanks and hand-picked for defects after drying. Fermentation, drying and storage are centralised at Rahyang to keep consistency from lot to lot, and every lot is cupped before it is offered.

How do you work with local farmers?

We build long-term partnerships with smallholder families. We work together on picking, sorting and basic processing, offer training, and reward quality with premiums and stable pricing, so better coffee means better income.

Do you sell roasted coffee or only green beans?

Both. Rahyang supplies green coffee to roasters, and our roasted coffees are sold under our Rasamala brand: five JAWAHALU coffees in 200 g whole-bean bags.

Can I get samples?

Yes. Samples are available on request for all our green coffee lots. Tell us about your roasting style and we will recommend the lots that fit best.

Can I visit the farm?

Yes, visits to the farm in West Java can be arranged on request. Contact us at info@rahyang.com or +62 818-902-442 and we will help you plan your visit.
